I was introduced to cooking at the age of 14 years by my mom when she had a bad fracture on her hand and she was put on cast for almost a month. I was obviously expected to keep the kitchen running and make some decent food for all of us. My mom used to teach me a dish on the previous day at the hospital and I would go home and make that for lunch the next day. My dad and brother did not have a choice and slowly steadily I started learning the basic South Indian day to day food.

Then Diwali was round the corner and my mom decided to teach me 3-4 sweets and snacks which turned out to be very good. I realised that I actually loved cooking, but, I never really took keen interest to develop this skill. My mom continues to be my point of reference for any recipes that I wish to make. She is a great cook and cooking comes naturally to her.

The second innings of my cooking started after I got married and went away to Muscat. I learnt a lot of recipes from my friend Saroj who used to be a ready reckoner for me whenever I had any doubts or needed a new recipe. She used to have the art of making recipes easy. This was the time when I was convinced that not only do I love cooking but I enjoy searching books and the web and trying out new recipes.

Where my mom and Saroj taught me basic cooking, the next level of cooking was from my foodie group. This group was formed with a few food lovers and today we are around 50+ members from different parts of India and with all age groups from 25 to 70 years old. I keep learning new recipes and different cuisines from these experts almost everyday.

The saga continues... but a book had to be created to save all that I have tried and tested and thus this blog was born. My pictures may not be as great but my recipes are simple, and if followed, the results are yummy!

Do go through my recipes and I would love to hear about your view and suggestions at vidya_i@hotmail.com
