Cabbage Rice

I came up with this recipe when I did not know what to make for lunch one and was a little lazy to cook anything extravagant. I came up with this rice variety witht he cabbage I had and added idli molgapodi (spice powder) for the spice, and voila! It was so tasty!


Prep Time: 10 mins

Cook Time: 30 mins


Ingredients

  • 1 cup Shredded cabbage

  • 1 and 1/2 cups basmati rice

  • Salt, to taste

  • 2 tbsp Idli podi

For tempering

  • 2 + 1 tbsp ghee

  • 3 tbsp Oil

  • 3 Red chillies

  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds

  • 1 tsp urad dal

  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder

Instructions

  1. Cook the basmati rice till it is cooked, do not let it get overcooked and the grains should be separate

  2. In a pan add 2 tbsp ghee and the oil, splutter mustard seeds

  3. Add urad dal and sauté till it is light pink

  4. Add turmeric powder and red chillies

  5. Add the cabbage and salt, cover and cook till done

  6. Add the idli podi and mix well, switch off the gas

  7. Add the cooked rice and mix well, top it with 1 tbsp ghee

  8. Serve with raita and chips
