This is a very different type of biryani. The Chana dal gives a good taste to the biryani.

Ingredients
1 cup Basmati rice
1/4 cup Chana dal
2 Onions sliced lengthwise
1 tbsp Ginger garlic paste
1 tbsp Coriander green chillies paste
1 tbsp Biryani masala
3 tbsp Finely chopped mint leaves
2 tbsp Finely chopped coriander leaves
3 strands saffron soaked in half cup milk
4 tbsp yogurt
Salt, to taste
1 tsp Chilli powder
1 tsp turmeric powder
3 tbsp Ghee
Instructions
Cook the basmati rice with salt till 3/4 done
In an open pan cook the chana dal with salt and turmeric powder till it gets cooked well but does not get mashy. Drain the water.
In a non stick pan add the ghee and saute onions till light brown
Add the ginger garlic paste, coriander green chilli paste and saute well
Add salt, garam masala, chilli powder and saute well
Add the yogurt and mix well
Add the cooked chana dal and keep aside, it should be slightly loose in consistency
In a rice cooker, add 1/2 chana dal mixture, top it with half the rice, sprinkle half the saffron-milk mixture, add half chopped coriander leaves and mint leaves.
Make another layer in the same manner as the previous step which means you should end with the leaves
Cover this cooker with an aluminum foil and the lid and switch on till it gets cooked like dum for around 15-20 mins.
Mix well gently and serve hot with yogurt sprinkled with chaat masala
