Chana Dal Halwa

This gorgeous dessert is similar to Moong Dal Sheera, very rich and tasty!


Prep Time: 1 hr 10 mins Cook Time: 45 mins


Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Chana dal

  • 5 tbsp ghee

  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • 1/2 cup + 1 tbsp Milk

  • 10 strands Saffron

  • 3 tbsp Water

  • Cardamom powder, as required

  • 2 tbsp Slivered almonds

Instructions

  1. Soak the chana dal for an hour

  2. Drain the water and keep aside for 10 minutes

  3. Grind this to a coarse paste without adding much water

  4. Soak saffron in a tbsp of hot milk

  5. In a thick saucepan take 2 tbsp ghee and add the ground paste

  6. Keep sauteeing it till you get a dry mixture and a nice aroma is emitted

  7. Add the milk, saffron milk and 3 tbsp water

  8. Keep cooking and continuously stirring it till the moisture evaporates

  9. Add the sugar and rest of the ghee and cook well till it starts leaving the sides of the pan

  10. Switch off the gas and garnish with cardamom powder and slivered almonds

  11. Serve hot by itself
