Chickpeas Sundal

This sundal is made generally on Saraswati pooja day i.e the 9th day of Navratri and is given as prasad for ladies who come for haldi kumkum along with a sweet prasad.


Prep Time: 8 hrs

Cook Time: 20 mins





Ingredients

  • 1 cup Chickpeas

  • Salt, to taste

  • 3 tbsp Fresh grated coconut

For the spice powder

  • 1 tsp Oil

  • 1 tbsp Coriander seeds

  • 3 Red chillies

  • 1 tsp Hing

For tempering

  • 2 tbsp Oil

  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds

  • 2 Red chillies

  • 4 Curry leaves

  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder

Instructions

For the spice powder

  1. In a small pan add all the ingredients for spice powder and saute it well till the coriander leaves become light brown, grind this into a powder and keep aside

For the sundal

  1. Soak chickpeas overnight after washing it well

  2. Cook it with 5-6 whistles in a pressure cooker and then drain the water from the peas

  3. In a pan take oil and splutter mustard seeds

  4. Add red chillies, curry leaves and turmeric powder

  5. Add the drained peas and cook for a minute

  6. Add salt and the spice powder and mix well, saute for a minute

  7. Add grated coconut and saute for another minute and switch off the flame.

Notes

You can use this spice powder for some subzis as well.
