Lobia Dal

This dal is made with Maharastrian spice powder Goda masala. This dal can be had with steamed rice or with rotis. I make it straight in my cooker with all the ingredients added as the spices get infused better into the pulses

Prep Time: 1 hr Cook Time: 30 mins


Ingredients

  • 1 cup Pigeon eyed beans

  • 2 Tomatoes pureed

  • Salt, to taste

  • 1 tbsp Goda masala

  • 1 tsp Chilli powder

  • Finely chopped coriander leaves, for garnish

For tempering

  • 1 tbsp Oil

  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds

  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak the pigeon eyed beans for half hour

  2. In a pressure cooker, take oil, splutter mustard seeds and add turmeric powder

  3. Add the tomato puree and saute till the raw smell of the tomatoes go away

  4. Add goda masala, chilli powder and salt and saute for 5 minutes

  5. Add the soaked beans, 1 and 1/2 cups of water and cook for 2 whistles

  6. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rotis
