Masale Bhaat

Masale Bhaat is a very famous mixed rice speciality of Maharashtrians. They make this for a lot of festivals and serve it with varanchi dal and puran poli. They use various vegetables like cauliflower or tindli or brinjal etc but I felt this rice is best when it is prepared with tindli or gerkins.

Cook Time: 40 mins


Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Gerkins or tindli washed and sliced

  • 1 cup Basmati rice

  • Salt to taste

  • 2 tbsp Goda masala

  • 3 tbsps Oil

  • 2 tbsps ghee

  • 2 tbsps + for garnish fresh grated coconut

  • 2 tbsp + for garnish Finely chopped coriander leaves

  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds

  • 3 finely chopped green chillies

  • 1 tsp Chilli powder

  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder

Instructions

  1. In a pressure cooker take the oil and ghee and splutter mustard seeds

  2. Add the green chillies, tindli, turmeric powder, salt and mix well

  3. Add the rice and saute for 3-5 mins

  4. Add the 2 tbsp coriander leaves and the 2 tbsp grated coconut mix well

  5. Add the goda masala, chilli powder, 2 cups of water and give 1 whistle

  6. Garnish with coriander leaves and fresh grated coconut
