Methi Dal

This is a simple dal made with fenugreek or methi leaves. I did not know about this dal till my friend Saroj introduced me to this simple recipe.


Cook Time: 30 mins




Ingredients

  • 1 cup Tur dal

  • 1 Finely chopped tomatoes

  • 1 and 1/2 cups Finely chopped methi leaves

  • Salt, to taste

  • 1 and 1/2 tsps Chilli powder

  • 2 tbsp Oil

  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds

  • 1 tsp Coriander powder

  • 1 tsp turmeric powder

Instructions

  1. Soak tur dal for an hour

  2. In a pressure cooker, add the oil and splutter cumin seeds

  3. Add chopped tomatoes and salt and sauté till it becomes mushy

  4. Add chilli powder, coriander powder and turmeric powder and sauté for another minute

  5. Add the methi leaves, soaked dal, enough water and give 2-3 whistles

  6. Serve hot with rotis
