Methi Sambhar

This is another recipe of sambhar with only methi leaves. In this recipe I have added my mom’s sambhar powder which beats any sambhar powder brought from the store. This is best had with steamed rice and ghee.


Prep Time: 20 mins

Cook Time: 30 mins




Ingredients

  • 1 cup Finely chopped methi leaves

  • Salt, to taste

  • 3/4 cup Tur dal

  • 1 lemon sized Tamarind, soaked in hot water

  • 2 tbsp Sambhar powder

  • 1 tsp Hing

  • 1 Finely chopped tomatoes

For tempering

  • 1 tbsp Coconut Oil

  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds

  • 3-4 Curry leaves

  • Turmeric powder

Instructions

  1. Cook the tur dal, mash and keep aside

  2. In a pan take oil splutter mustard seeds and turmeric powder

  3. Add the tomatoes and sauté till half mushy

  4. Add the methi leaves and sauté well

  5. Add the tamarind pulp, hing, salt and boil till the raw smell goes away

  6. Add the sambhar powder, simmer for a minute

  7. Add the cooked dal and simmer for another 2 minutes till well blended
