Paniyaram is appe in Tamil. Appes are basically a South Indian snack or breakfast dish. It is healthy because it is made in an appam pan, does not need much oil and has the goodness of lentils and oats.

Ingredients
3/4 cup Oats
1/4 cup Tur dal
1/4 cup Chana dal
1 tbsp Urad dal
1 tbsp Moong dal
Salt, to taste
1 inch Ginger
4 Green chillies
1 tsp Fennel seeds
1 small Finely chopped onions
3 tbsp Finely chopped coriander leaves
Oil, for cooking
Instructions
Soak the dals for 3 hours
In a blender add oats, green chillies, fennel, ginger and grind to a coarse powder, keep aside
Add the dals with very little water and grind to a paste
Mix with this with the oats mixture, add water and make it to a pouring consistency
Add chopped onions, coriander leaves, salt and mix well
In an appe pan, add 1 tsp oil in all the slots
Fill the slot with the batter, cover and cook both sides on low flame till crispy
Serve hot with coconut chutney
