Oats Kozhakattai

This is a healthier version of South Indian rice kozhakattai and can be had for dinner or breakfast with coconut chutney or spicy tomato chutney.

Cook Time: 1 hr


Ingredients

  • 1 cup oats

  • 2 tbsps Tur dal

  • Salt, to taste

  • 1 cup Water

For tempering

  • 1 tbsp Oil

  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds

  • 1 tsp Urad dal

  • 2 Red chillies cut into 2

  • 3 Green chillies cut into 2

  • 1 tsp Hing

  • 4 Curry leaves

Instructions

  1. Soak tur dal for 1 hour, grind to a paste without adding much water

  2. In a pan take the oats and sauté it for 5 minutes till you get a nice aroma, keep aside

  3. In the same pan add the oil and add all the ingredients for tempering

  4. Add the water and salt and bring to a boil

  5. Add the tur dal paste and the oats and cook till it becomes a pliable dough-like mixture

  6. Make oblong large lemon sized balls out of this and steam them in an idli cooker

  7. Serve hot with coconut chutney
