Palak Chole

The combination of chickpeas and spinach in this recipe is really tasty and healthy too!

Cook Time: 1 hr




Ingredients

  • 1 cup Chickpeas soaked overnight

  • 2 bunches spinach leaves

  • Salt, to taste

  • 1 tsp Chilli powder

  • 2 tsps Chole masala

  • 1 tsp Coriander powder

  • 1 Onion finely chopped

  • 1 Tomato finely chopped

  • 2 tsps grated ginger garlic

  • 1 tsp + 2 tbsp oil

  • 4 green chillies halved

  • 1 tsp cumin seeds


Instructions

  1. soak the chick peas overnight and cook in a pressure cooker the next day, drain the peas and retain the water

  2. De-stalk the spinach leaves and wash them well

  3. In a pan take 1 tsp oil and saute the green chillies and spinach leaves until the spinach leaves shrink and look cooked

  4. Make a puree of this and keep aside

  5. In the same pan take 2 tbsp oil and splutter cumin seeds

  6. Add the grated ginger garlic and saute till the raw smell goes away

  7. Add the chopped onions and saute till light brown

  8. Make a puree of the tomato and add this to the onion mixture and cook till you see the oil oozing

  9. Add the chilli powder, salt and the chole masala and saute well for a min

  10. Add the spinach puree and the cooked peas along with the retained water and cook till it becomes semi dry and the whole mixture is well blended

  11. Serve hot with rotis
