Idli Rice Rawa Upma - Type 1

This is a very interesting recipe and usually made for breakfast in Andhra Pradesh. This is very tasty and filling and best eaten with coconut chutney.


Prep Time: 15 mins

Cook Time: 45 mins




Ingredients

  • 1 and 1/2 cups Rice Rawa

  • 2 tbsps Yellow moong dal

  • Salt, to taste

  • 4 cups water

For tempering

  • 2 tbsp Oil

  • 1 tsp Ghee

  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds

  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds

  • 2 Finely chopped green chillies

  • 3 Red chillies

  • 4-5 Curry leaves

  • 2 tbsp Broken cashew nuts

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan heat ghee and oil

  2. Add all the ingredients for tempering and sauté till the cashew nuts get roasted

  3. Add the moong dal and sauté till light brown and well roasted

  4. Add the water, adjust salt and boil

  5. Once the water boils, add the rice rawa and briskly stir it

  6. Cover and cook on medium flame for 5 minutes

  7. Switch off the flame and keep covered for 5 minutes

  8. Open the lid and fluff it with a fork, crumbling it

  9. Serve hot with coconut chutney for breakfast
