This is again my mom’s signature dish. She would make different types of poha and this one in particular is very tangy and spicy. This dish is similar to tamarind rice but more simple and can be eaten for breakfast.
Prep Time: 15 mins
Cook Time: 30 mins
Ingredients
1 cup Thick poha
1 small lemon sized Tamarind
Salt, to taste
1 tsp Turmeric powder
1 tsp Hing
For tempering
1 tbsp Oil
1 tsp Mustard seeds
1 tsp Urad dal
5 Red chillies
1 tbsp Peanuts
4-5 Curry leaves
Instructions
Soak the tamarind in just enough hot water
Remove the pulp, add salt, turmeric powder, hing and mix well (this should be thick)
Dry sieve the poha
Soak the poha in the tamarind mixture, making sure there is not too much water. Soak this for half an hour and fluff it gently with a fork.
In a pan take oil and add all the ingredients for tempering and saute till the peanuts get well roasted
Add the poha, adjust salt if needed and saute for 5 minutes till well combined
Serve hot as is
