Mor Aval (Yogurt Poha)

This is a South Indian breakfast or snack. Thayir means curd (yogurt) in Tamil and Aval means poha. This poha is soaked in thin yoghurt and then cooked with condiments. It is very light and delicious!


Prep Time: 15 mins

Cook Time: 30 mins


Ingredients

  • 1 cup Poha

  • 3/4 cup Watery yogurt (1/2:1 - yogurt:water)

  • Salt, to taste

  • 1 tsp Hing

For tempering

  • 3 tbsp Oil

  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds

  • 1 tsp Urad dal

  • 4 Red chillies

  • 6 Curry leaves

  • 3 tbsp Fresh grated coconut

Instructions

  1. Soak the poha in thin yoghurt mixed with salt and hing til the poha blooms

  2. Fluff the poha with a fork to loosen it

  3. In a pan take oil and splutter mustard seeds, curry leaves, red chillies and urad dal till the urad dal becomes light brown

  4. Add the fluffed poha, salt and sauté for 5 minutes

  5. Garnish with grated coconut
