Umm Ali

This is a very popular Middle Eastern Egyptian dessert. Being in the Middle East, practically every event that I have gone to including weddings, conferences and workshops, this dessert has been served. Loaded with dry fruits like any other Middle Eastern dessert, this recipe is very easy to make and extremely rich.

Cook Time: 1 hr 30 mins

Ingredients

  • 6 Fresh croissants

  • 2 litres Full cream milk

  • 200 gms Condensed milk

  • Slivered pistachios and almonds, to garnish

Instructions

  1. In a heavy saucepan boil the milk and reduce to half stirring continuously in sim flame

  2. Chop the croissants into 5 (remember the croissants should be fresh and not stale ones)

  3. In an oven proof glass tray, spread the croissants

  4. Mix the condensed milk in hot reduced milk and pour this all over the croissants (do not worry if it looks too liquidy, it will get dried up when you bake it)

  5. Garnish the dry fruits all over the mixture

  6. Bake this in a preheated oven at 180 degrees C for 30-40 mins while keeping a watch

  7. Serve hot
